RMV Targets the Hungry for Holiday Giving

(Boston, MA) - Registrar Rachel Kaprielian kicked off the RMV’s holiday giving campaign at the Greater Boston Food Bank’s annual “Chain of Giving” event, joining Governor Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino in unloading thousands of turkeys destined for food pantries and soup kitchens.
The RMV is partnering with GBFB and three other regional food banks in collecting food and grocery staples at all 35 branch offices across the state.

Dr. Rachel Buchsbaum named Diane Connolly-Zaniboni ScholarFunds raised by Cure Breast Cancer license plate will be used to continue important research

(Boston, MA) - Rachel Buchsbaum, MD, today was named the first Diane Connolly-Zaniboni Scholar in Breast Cancer Research at Tufts Medical Center. Sales of the Cure Breast Cancer license plate through the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles will provide Dr. Buchsbaum with $120,000 to help support her research for the next two years. Dr. Buchsbaum is studying experimental models of how breast cancers invade tissues.

(Boston, MA) - Registrar Rachel Kaprielian today released new data which shows that in the three years since Melanie's Law was enacted, nearly 20% more suspected drunk drivers are being arrested while fewer of those charged are refusing to take the breathalyzer test.

(Randolph, MA) - Registry of Motor Vehicle inspectors and Randolph police officers uncovered illegal vehicles, unlicensed drivers and a large number of other safety violations following a surprise crackdown on 78 pupil transport vehicles carrying youngsters to six Randolph elementary schools.
Registrar Rachel Kaprielian who took part in the sting operation, said the RMV launched “Operation BUSted” after receiving numerous complaints that pupil transports were skirting the strict requirements in operating so called 7D vehicles. Read More...

(Revere, MA) - Registrar Rachel Kaprielian welcomed Revere city leaders and the state legislative delegation to the new home of the RMV which is currently being retrofitted into a state-of-the-art branch at Mahoney's Circle in the new Channel Mall.
The Revere office, which will replace the Melrose branch, is expected to open in January 2009. It will feature ample parking and handicap access as well as dual work-stations which help customer service representatives work more efficiently.

(Boston, MA) - Registrar Rachel Kaprielian announced today that the RMV has awarded Digimarc's ID Systems Business, now a part of the Secure Credentialing Division of L-1 Identity Solutions, located in Burlington, a six year contract to enhance the security of the state's driver's license which the company will begin manufacturing in the Commonwealth for the first time.

(Boston, MA) - Registrar Rachel Kaprielian today announced that the RMV has added a new customer convenience that's expected to make it easier for more Massachusetts drivers to go online at www.Mass.Gov/RMV instead of in line at branches. The RMV will determine if motorists can renew their license through internet services or whether they must come visit a branch to update their picture. The determination will be included in license renewal applications that are mailed to drivers 45 days before their license expires.

Massachusetts will introduce its "next generation" vehicle emissions testing and safety inspection program on Wednesday, October 1, but officials from the Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) and Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) said today that except for a new name, Massachusetts Vehicle Check, most motorists shouldn't notice much of a difference.

(Braintree, MA) - Registrar of Motor Vehicles Rachel Kaprielian today joined state legislators and Braintree municipal leaders to officially open the newest RMV branch in Braintree, cutting the ribbon on a state-of-the-art facility that boasts modern conveniences for customers south of Boston. The 8,000 square foot office space replaces the RMV branch in Quincy which closed last Friday.

(Boston, MA) - If history holds true, three Massachusetts teenagers will be killed in car crashes before the high school prom and graduation season is over, but not if the Registry of Motor Vehicles and Boston and local police can help it. Today as part of a statewide effort to get teens to drive safer, RMV inspectors teamed with police officers in launching "Operation Graduation", a positive outreach campaign.

(Boston, MA)- Registrar Anne L. Collins today announced that three new services have been added to the RMV website which allows customers to do more business online instead of in line. For the first time, customers can utilize the internet to look-up their registrations, vehicle titles and driver education certificates. The new real-time services are expected to shorten lines at all RMV branches, reduce calls to the telephone service center and improve efficiencies throughout the agency.

(Boston, MA)- Transportation Secretary Bernard Cohen today released new data which shows the death toll for teen drivers dropped by a third in the year since the Registry of Motor Vehicles implemented the new junior operator law. Violations for risk-taking behavior such as speeding and drag racing are also down. Secretary Cohen and Registrar Anne L. Collins credit the major changes in the law-zero tolerance penalties, mandatory driver training for parents and more hours behind the wheel for getting junior operators to drive safer.

(Roslindale, MA)- The Registry of Motor Vehicles welcomed state legislators, Boston city councilors, community leaders - and customers - to the official reopening of the Roslindale RMV Branch, located in the Roslindale Community Center. The building was closed for 18 months as part of a city-sponsored renovation project.
